Strengthening International Collaboration for the Advancement of NAMs and Alternative Methods

Session of Asian Federation of the Societies for Alternatives to Animal Experiments (AFSAAE)

This special session will bring together representatives of leading scientific societies and organizations from across Asia and Europe to discuss ongoing activities, emerging initiatives, and opportunities for international collaboration in the development, validation, and implementation of New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) and alternative methods.

Participants will receive updates on the activities of the Asian Federation (AF), the Japanese Society for Alternatives to Animal Experiments (JSAAE), the Korean Society for Alternatives to Animal Experiments (KSAAE), the Toxicological Alternative Testing and Translation (TATT) initiative in China, and the Asian Federation Young Scientists Forum (AF-YSF). Additional contributions from India and Sri Lanka will highlight regional developments and growing engagement in advancing innovative approaches to safety assessment.

The session will also provide an opportunity to discuss capacity building, education and training, international harmonisation, regulatory acceptance, and preparations for future global initiatives, including the World Congress on Alternatives and Animal Use in the Life Sciences (WC14).

A key highlight of the session will be the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between ESTIV and the Asian Federation, establishing a framework for closer cooperation and strengthening scientific exchange between the European and Asian alternatives communities.

Through knowledge sharing and strategic partnerships, this session aims to foster a stronger global network supporting the advancement of human-relevant, innovative, and scientifically robust approaches for safety assessment.
