Honorary Membership granted to Prof. Greet Schoeters

Prof. Greet Schoeters

The ESTIV Honorary Membership has been granted to Prof. Greet Schoeters (ESTIV President 2008-2012) in recognition of her outstanding commitment and contributions to ESTIV.

Short Bio:

Greet Schoeters is a biologist by training and currently Professor Environmental Health affiliated to the University of Antwerp-Belgium. She has directed the programs on Environmental Toxicology and Environmental Health at VITO ( Flemish Institute for Technological Research) for almost 30 years.

She has introduced and applied in vitro testing in the field of ecotoxicology and has used in vitro testing to better understand the effects of environmental chemicals in humans and to discover molecular markers for immunotoxic chemicals and endocrine disruptors.  More recently she has coordinated human biomonitoring studies in Flanders and in Europe. Next to exposure information also mechanistic-based effect biomarkers have been applied in human biomonitoring studies, hence bridging in vitro research with human molecular epidemiology. Throughout her research, she is committed to improving the dialogue with decision-makers and stakeholders to promote the uptake and use of the scientific results.

She has served as president of ESTIV between 2008 and 2012 and has organized INVITOX2006 in  Ostend , Belgium.  She has been a member of various expert panels ( European Food Safety Agency, DG-SANTE, CEFIC-LRI, European Environment Agency)  and has managed and participated in many European and national projects.  She is the author and co-author of more than 250 manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals on environmental health, environmental toxicology, risk and health impact assessment, molecular epidemiology, and biomonitoring. https://orcid.org/0000-0002-6556-4814
